The article reports on the inaugural meeting of the DFG network "i-functions in the Context of Language Reflection". i-functions are the semantics, the pragmatics … of linguistic signs. The network brings together expertise from areas such as (school) pedagogy, educational psychology, teaching and learning research, linguistics, and language didactics. The goal is to develop an interdisciplinary and systematic understanding of content-related functions of linguistic signs. School curricula emphasize on these functions but the notion remains insufficiently clarified within language didactics. The focus of the first meeting was on identifying case examples and developing a shared framework for case-based approaches to i-functions in the context of German language teaching.
