Abstract

The interdisciplinary conference Literary-Aesthetic Experiences in Out-of-School Learning Spaces,
held from March 10-13, 2025, at the University of Münster, addressed the question of how literary education can be conceived, mediated, and didactically explored beyond the classroom in museum, urban, and digital contexts. The conference focused on contributions to the theory and practice of literary-aesthetic experiential spaces – from epistemic thinking spaces to transmedia projects to digital subcultures – as well as didactic connections to school contexts and the role of power critique, diversity, and inclusion in literary mediation formats. Through practical examples from literary museums, urban walks, digital platforms, and unexpected sites such as zoos, perspectives on literary education were presented that understand out-of-school spaces as independent experiential realms with specific potentials. The conference demonstrated the necessity of an interdisciplinary research field at the intersection of literature didactics, scenography, curatorial practice, and critical cultural studies.
