This article reports on the presentations and central discussion points of the public, hybrid lecture series "Between claim and reality – rethinking literature teaching at secondary level I", which took place in the winter semester 2024/2025 in digital format and at the FU Berlin, the Heidelberg and Weingarten Universities of Education and the University of Erfurt and organized by Martina von Heynitz, Michael Steinmetz (both Weingarten) as well as Marco Magirius (Erfurt) and Daniel Scherf (Heidelberg). The focus was reflecting on areas of tension between literature didactics and literature teaching at secondary level I. The lecture was divided into three thematic blocks: First, it was about “findings on the practice of literature teaching” (Block I) and “literature didactic modeling” (Block II), before “new paths in literature teaching” were outlined in the most extensive Block III. After a report on the individual lectures and discussion points, the proceeds from the lecture series are bundled in the “Bilanz und Ausblick” section.
