Abstract

In the German-speaking countries and internationally, there is currently a severe shortage of teachers. One measure to reduce this shortage is to recruit student teachers as substitute teachers to compensate for shortfalls in lessons in the short term or to cover regular lessons in the medium term. From a research perspective, it is important to ask to what extent such activities occur, how the activities can be characterized (e.g. in terms of supervision, teaching quality, etc.) and what opportunities and challenges arise with regard to (university) professionalization processes. This article provides an overview of the current research and derives desiderata for professionalization and teaching research in the field of L1 German teaching.
